In 1996, Karen Gehres began to document her friend’s career in prostitution. Elise Hill started turning tricks at the age of fifteen after running away from her suburban New Jersey home. At the age of thirty she decided to return to stripping. Over the next seven years, Mayor Guiliani wiped out the sex businesses on 42nd Street, leaving Elise unemployed and homeless.
